When Peter Lik’s parents got him a Kodak Brownie camera for his eighth birthday, no one could have predicted where it would take him. Peter’s first photo of a dewy spider web in the family garden opened his eyes and ignited a passion that led to the world’s most stunning landscapes.
The child of Czech immigrants, Lik grew up in Melbourne, Australia, with an abundance of natural beauty to photograph. There, he opened his first gallery and fine art publishing company before undertaking an ambitious project in the United States. Peter traveled 50,000 miles shooting 1,000 rolls of film to capture landscapes in all 50 states. Highlights of his journey are in his book, “Spirit of America.”
Entirely self-taught, Peter’s mantra, “If you’re on the edge, you’re not close enough” is evident in his breathtaking work. His iconic images “Ghost” (taken in Arizona) and “Inner Peace” (taken in Oregon) are on display at the Smithsonian Institute. His photo “One” (taken on the banks of the Androscoggin River in New Hampshire) sold for $1 million dollars.
Peter’s drive for the perfect photographs led to a deal with the NBC-owned cable network, The Weather Channel. The action-adventure reality series, “From the Edge with Peter Lik,” shows the legendary photographer battling the elements in his quest for the best shots. Presidents, celebrities, even the Queen of England are among those collecting his work.
While Peter remains focused on his photography, Lewis Roca Rothgerber is committed to protecting his intellectual property, ensuring that this master photographer’s copyrights are properly registered. The firm’s attorneys helped Peter launch his galleries in Las Vegas and handle real estate transactions for all 13 Lik galleries across the United States and Australia. And, as Peter’s multi-million dollar business grows, Lewis Roca Rothgerber continues to provide support and guidance.
